National PAW

In 1999, Pride At Work became an official constituency group of the AFL-CIO (American Federation of Labor & Congress of Industrial Organizations).

The purpose of Pride At Work is to mobilize mutual support between the organized Labor Movement and the LGBT Community around organizing for social and economic justice.

We see full equality for LGBT Workers in their workplaces and unions.

We work towards creating a Labor Movement that cherishes diversity, encourages openness, and ensures safety & dignity.

We aim to educate the LBGT Community about the benefits of union membership for LGBT working people, and to build support and solidarity for the union movement in the LGBT community.

We intend to do this in the spirit of the union movement's historic motto, "An Injury to One is An Injury to All." We oppose all forms of discrimination on the job and in our unions based on sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, national or ethnic origin, age, disability, religion or political views.

Amicus Brief filed by Michigan PAW

An amicus brief was filed on behalf of Michigan Pride at Work, OPEIU Local 459 and the Michigan State AFL-CIO arguing that Proposal 2 adopted in the 2004 election (the constitutional marriage amendment) does not prohibit public employers from negotiating domestic partner benefits.  Judge Draganchuk with the Ingham County Circuit Court  found that this amendment did not infringe upon a public employers' right to provide domestic partner benefits.  The Court of Appeals reversed her decision in March 2007 and now the case has been appealed to the Michigan Supreme Court and we are awaiting the Supreme Court's decision to grant leave and hear this matter.
